Meet John Simpson

Board Member

John Simpson is a retired partner from a 4 generation general contractor Frank Burla and Sons Builders specializing in commercial construction since 1991. Previous to that he was President of a family construction business specializing in marine, bridge, and heavy foundation construction. John has a civil engineering degree from the University of Illinois in Urbana.

“Festival Jack” as he is known by his friends; musically enjoys jazz, blues, Americana and music from New Orleans. John is a member of the City of Joliet’s Art’s Commission, Vice President of the Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park, foundation board member for the Rialto Square Theater, and a board member of the Joliet Noon Lions Club. Born and raised in Joliet, John is married to his wife Patricia Simpson and has a daughter Corie and a son Scott.

Jack is also the current or past chair for Past Executive board member and Special Events chair Joliet Chamber of Commerce, Former board member of the Illinois Rock and Roll Museum on Rt. 66 (2017- 2019)

Festivals I’ve help create, maintain, and volunteer at include:

New Orleans North, Joliet Blues Festival, Frankfort Bluegrass Festival, Illinois Rock & Roll Museum Wine and Jazz festival, Joliet Prison concerts, and Concerts on the Hill at Bicentennial Park Joliet

The museum suffered damage as the result of a microburst in downtown Joliet. The building did sustain some damage however we are extremely grateful that no one was injured during this tragedy. 


We are fortunate that Gigantar, our exhibit artifacts and the gift shop merchandise all escaped any damage. 


We are temporarily closed to the public as we work with our contractors through the cleanup process.
